Last Sunday my mother, grandfather, cousin and I paid a visit to Bukit Brown, which has been gazetted for development by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). I had never been there before, and had never given it much thought, but after the gazetting I figured that it would be good to pay a visit, preferably with someone who had relatives buried there.
Not knowing where to start, I called my grandfather, on the off-chance that he knew someone. And that was when I found out that my own great-grandparents are buried in Bukit Brown.
After visiting Bukit Brown, I wrote a piece for The Online Citizen entitled “When the day is finished”, which was an attempt to figure out my thoughts and feelings at yet another historic part of Singapore making way for progress and development.
I still can’t find the answer.
Still, regardless of whether the answer is found, I wanted to record this place as best as I could in the short time that I had (the others who were with me didn’t want to stay long, and the mosquitoes were killing us). Here are some of the photographs I took:

I’ve been wanting to visit Bukit Brown in the day since i first read that it might be demolished for future developments. Am hoping to go sometime in July/August when I have more time at hand. By the way, did u manage to find the tomb that is the size of 10 3room HDB flats?

No, I didn’t! I didn’t get to stay there for long because my granddad couldn’t walk too much. I would love to go back but I just need to find the time.

In current times where every inch of land is expensive in Singapore, is there still a tomb lying around in the Bukit Timah private estate?
